The Interior Ministry of Cyprus has submitted a new draft law to Parliament which is designed to open the doors to European estate agents wishing to practice in Cyprus.
The changes to the law result of an earlier EU inquiry into Cyprus' restrictive practices that penalised estate agents from other EU-member states wishing to practice on the Island. |

The Cyprus property market has finally received some good news as property sales in rose by 24% year-on-year in January.
A report from the Cyprus Department of Lands and Surveys showed that 570 sale contracts were deposited at Land Registries in Cyprus last month, compared to 458 in January 2009. The most popular destination was Nicosia with 169 sales, followed by Limassol with 151 and Paphos with 113.
The total number of contracts was still 65% below those seen in January 2008. Sales fell by 84% for the whole of 2009 compared with the peak year of 2007. |

Despite the slump in overseas purchases Cyprus experienced last year, Purple International saw a surge in sales in the second half of 2009. The company is working with three developers to offer discounts of as much as 30% on completed properties across the country. |
